Magpie Entry #9

With apologies to Edna St. Vincent Millay
What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why,
I have forgotten.
That umber lipstick, though, I can't forget.
The rain is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply.
I cannot say what loves have gone before;
I only know that summer sang in me
A little while, that in me sings no more.

Berowne

Splendid job -- I do not think Edna would mind at all -- to still be remembered is a good thing.

What's with burnt umber?We saw this repeat in the opera Carmen. It is a hot colour. It must have been the colour of the year circa 1890. Serious love this poem Berowne! I can relate totally! Quelle title? Je t'adore!

So sad but as the flames die down there's less chance of getting burnt.

True, but don't forget that "smoke gets in your eyes". :-)

Thanks so much. But it's my use of Edna's words, actually.

to paraphrase; to have known the taste of love for a season is better than never knowing love.

My favorite line, "The rain is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply" puts me in a melancholy frame of mind. It's a beautiful piece of poetry.
