"M" is for "Monarch"
Finally – the news came with this morning’s paper.
I prepared to sit down to breakfast. My Ovaltine was at the ready, steaming hot and inviting.
(I gave up coffee some time back; trying to follow the current economic and political situation has just been too nerve-wracking.)
There could no longer be questions, arguments, accusations, disputes. The major question of the day had been answered and the answer was right there in the paper.
My political party, after months of submitting a seemingly endless list of potential candidates for the office of the Presidency – ranging from the barely acceptable through border-line deplorable, right on down to flat-out objectionable – had cut the Gordian knot and solved the problem.
It was an astonishing piece of news. Their decision: the person to be chosen at the next nominating convention would not be just someone people admire; the candidate would be something they desperately need:
A King.
After being nominated at the convention, our democratically-elected Monarch would be greeted everywhere throughout the land with great enthusiasm and with a cry similar to the one that has greeted royalty through the centuries:
“Vive le Roi des Etats-Unis! Vive le Roi!”

Here on the north side of our border, let me note that it's always interested me when Americans remark on Canada's monarchy, when there is so evidently a dynastic penchant running strong on your southern side. So your post rings true! With a delightful French twist at the end.

How scary ... but so is what we are experiencing now. The relief we cry out for could come wearing a crown I suppose; but we so love the Santa suit and all the toys we have come to expect. Good response to the prompt.
If monarchy is better than what is the government ruling now go for it. ^_^

Great post, I would vote for Michael Palin as well, maybe John Cleese as Vice-President?. The situation here in Ireland isn't much better. Nice to be back to Magpies, I took a break to write a screenplay.

You do have a serious point here. The Brits have had the unifying power of a king/queen for centuries, above politics and with an ear for the common man. But again, like the Brits have had to do from time to time, you might need to import one.
I suggest someone from a Chinese royal line who might manage to do what most such monarchs were meant to do, ie, bring their respective countries closer. King 'Wok Yu Wan' of America has a ring to it. Now there is an idea! A name competition for the first Chines born King of America.
